Why start with the G1?
Some kennel decisions begin with an awkward hatch or a back seat you can’t fold. With Gunner, the starting point is often a different question: what evidence is there behind the promise of protection? The G1 gives you something concrete to read. The Center for Pet Safety publishes certification results for individual G1 sizes, including the Intermediate with strength-rated anchor straps.
That makes the G1 a useful contender for regular car travel. It also gives you a sensible next step: match the result to the size your dog needs and the installation you can actually use. The straps and setup are part of the decision, alongside the kennel itself.
Make room for the whole kennel
The G1 has a double-walled shell, so the space it takes up in your car and the space your dog gets inside are different measurements. Start with Gunner’s sizing guidance for your dog, then check the exterior dimensions against your vehicle. A little planning here is easier than discovering that the hatch won’t close once the kennel arrives.
Think about how you’ll use it, too. Will the kennel stay in the car between trips, or will you lift it out every evening? Check the weight of the size you’re considering and leave room to open the door, reach the installation points and load your bags.
Where we’d go next
Our vehicle guides help you work through seating and loading space. If door placement is your bigger puzzle, compare the options in our RuffLand overview. You can also browse our wider kennel collection before narrowing things down.
G1 details and sources
For current sizes, dimensions, installation instructions and buying options, visit Gunner’s G1 product page. Read the Intermediate certification record or browse the Center for Pet Safety directory for the size you’re considering. A rating for one size and setup should not be applied to the whole range.
