My Happy Dog

How we choose and compare.

Happy dog, happy life. Start with the dog, the space and the job the equipment needs to do.

1. Suitability before preferences

The planner uses your answers about confinement distress, escape attempts, chewing and installation to rule out unsuitable equipment types. Reported distress or escape attempts stop kennel recommendations. Unknown confinement response also holds back kennel product options until you can assess it.

2. Real database records

Named products come from our kennel, dog-bed, harness, leash, pen and enrichment research collections. Each review records its sources and what still needs checking. Gates currently have equipment guidance without a named-product shortlist. A product appearing in the catalog does not mean the planner will recommend it for every dog.

3. Measurements with context

Breed, current weight and illustrated body-shape references help describe your dog. They do not generate measured dimensions. Enter body length, width, standing height and sitting height in inches. Bedding thickness reduces usable kennel headroom. Beds use separate measurements of your dog in their resting position. Measure the available floor space separately from your dog. The standing footprint is a length-by-width rectangle in square feet, not a kennel-size recommendation.

4. Measured options and research candidates

For kennel and bed models with verified size records, we compare the usable interior or sleeping surface with your measurements and the recorded allowances. We also check the outside footprint when you supply room measurements. Sizes that fail these checks cannot return through preference ranking. Passing the recorded checks is still not a guarantee: confirm door access, turning room, growth and the exact product instructions.

Models without verified dimensions, or plans missing the required dog measurements, remain separate research candidates. These help you decide what to investigate; they are not measured fit approvals.

5. Your priorities

Choose two priorities. The first receives twice the weight of the second, after suitability exclusions. For measured kennel and bed options, we compare documented features, exterior footprint for space saving, and dated exact-size prices when all eligible options have comparable price evidence. We choose the highest-scoring eligible size within each model family and show up to three model options. Equal scores use alphabetical order.

Research candidates use a separate set of reviewed lifestyle features. A direct benefit receives 2 points, a useful feature 1, and a documented drawback 0. The weighted total determines the order; ties are alphabetical. These are editorial convenience judgments, not test results or safety scores. Missing evidence earns no points and is shown as unknown, not poor quality. Coverage is limited to the models and features we have reviewed.

Appearance is subjective; folding storage does not establish floor-space fit, and repairability does not predict lifespan. Family-level prices cannot establish the cheapest exact size. Research candidates do not receive lower-cost or extra-containment scores. Harnesses, leashes, pens and enrichment are narrowed by relevant routine, use and documented limitations; without preference evidence, equal candidates remain alphabetical.

See the rules in a real plan

Our public sample uses the same matching rules as your plan. Compare our cleaning guide and living-room guide to see why different priorities can change the order. Each reviewed product has manufacturer links and a review date beside its lifestyle attributes.

Research sources and prices

Recorded offers identify the retailer, selected variant, source URL and observation date. Prices are dated snapshots, not live quotes, and exclude shipping and tax. Related variant candidates are not substituted for exact catalog-model listings. Check current dimensions, stock and terms at the seller.

Commercial relationships

Commission rates do not determine suitability. Ordinary source links remain available when there is no approved referral link. Read the link disclosure.

Use your plan

Read the tradeoffs and fit checks, confirm the exact variant and introduce equipment under supervision. Shared and saved plans reopen using the current database records. When no record can be shortlisted, the planner says so.
