What we would check first
- Identify the first action needed to release food.
- Check whether covers or other pieces detach.
- Compare treat dimensions with openings.
- Leave room for the person to demonstrate an easy success.
How we would choose
Set up only the simplest part of a new game. Show the dog where a reward can be found and let it try without increasing every obstacle at once. A tipping saucer and a board with removable bones require different handling. If the dog grabs pieces or seems stuck, simplify or stop. We would rather repeat a successful easy game than push through frustration.
Products to compare
These are use-relevant starting points from published evidence. They are not hands-on winners or a fit approval.
Prices are dated source observations, retrieved 2026-10-26. Cached pages may be older. Known model-family prices appear lowest first; unknowns follow. Capacities, generations, quantities and sellers can differ. Confirm the exact item, availability, shipping and tax at checkout.
Nina Ottosson Dog Brick Level 2
Brick would be our starting comparison for an owner who wants to teach several simple actions within one board. Lids, sliding blocks and removable covers let the person simplify the first session.
What could make us pass: Loose covers add handling and storage work. We would choose a different format if the dog is inclined to grab and chew the pieces rather than search for food.
Confirm the exact generation and all included pieces. Keep the game supervised and put covers away after use.

Nina Ottosson Treat Maze
Treat Maze makes sense when the owner wants movement and dispensing without a board full of loose covers. We would inspect the openings using the kibble actually fed at home.
What could make us pass: A saucer that tips and moves needs usable floor space. Some food shapes may release too easily or jam, so treat size is a more useful check than a difficulty label alone.
Check food dimensions against the openings, test on your flooring and wash according to current instructions.

Nina Ottosson Lickin Layers
Lickin' Layers is the crossover product that explains this collection well: textured food surfaces combined with spinning levels. We would compare it when both licking and simple movement suit the dog's routine.
What could make us pass: The sourced page describes top-rack cleaning in one place and handwashing in another. Small puppy and standard versions also differ, so neither care nor capacity should be assumed.
Match the model code and capacity. Resolve the care conflict with the current package or manufacturer instructions, and supervise use.

Nina Ottosson Dog Tornado
We would compare Tornado for a dog ready to learn that rotating a layer reveals food. Its spinning action offers a different challenge from a stationary ridged bowl.
What could make us pass: Older and current versions share the Tornado name. The supplied yellow image and another store's blue model do not establish the same compartment count or included bones.
Check the model code, color generation and included pieces. Begin with accessible compartments and supervise closely.

Brightkins Brain Teaser Treat Puzzle
Brain Teaser belongs on the shortlist for someone who wants an interactive board to work through with the dog. We would choose it for a workable hide-and-reveal routine rather than a promise to make a dog smarter.
What could make us pass: A board adds setup and washing compared with a plain bowl. Check the actual compartment mechanisms and dog access before deciding that more hiding spaces are useful.
Check opening sizes, included pieces and the current cleaning directions. Demonstrate an easy hide before increasing difficulty.

Nina Ottosson Puppy Hide N Slide
Puppy Hide N Slide is worth comparing when the owner wants to teach sliding and swiveling actions. We would use the puppy label as a prompt to check scale and handling, then make the first hides easy.
What could make us pass: Puppy branding is not permission for chewing or unsupervised use. Similar green and purple versions need their own model and construction check.
Confirm the exact puppy model and included parts. The sourced purple version is listed at 11.6 inches square.

OurPets Sushi Treat Dispensing Puzzle
Sushi is a style-led puzzle choice for an owner who enjoys setting up a food-search game. We would compare its working food compartments with the simpler boards before paying for the theme.
What could make us pass: The decorative design should not outweigh accessible food and easy cleaning. The sourced care routine is handwashing, which matters if the game will be used daily.
Confirm the exact dog-and-cat model, included components and treat access. Supervise and inspect the game after use.

Nina Ottosson MultiPuzzle
MultiPuzzle is the comparison we would save for a dog already comfortable with simpler games. The wheel and multiple sliders offer an owner a way to teach a sequence of actions.
What could make us pass: We would not buy a Level 4 board simply because a dog learns quickly. A frustrated dog gains little from a game that is too hard to begin.
The sourced board is approximately 15 inches square. Start with an easy setup and keep the session supervised.

A common buying question
Should we start at the highest level for a clever dog? We would start with a mechanism the dog understands and add difficulty gradually. The catalog has not tested the maker's level ratings.
