Kennels for chewers and escape attempts

Chewing and escape attempts are reasons to reassess the entire confinement setup. Compare materials and connections, but first consider when the behavior occurs. A dog calmly mouthing a surface and a dog panicking when left alone present different purchasing questions.

Measure before choosing

Inside space answers “can my dog use it?” Outside space answers “can I put it here?” Both need checking.

  1. Measure nose to tail base, widest body point, and natural standing and sitting height in inches.
  2. Keep usable inside L × W × H separate from complete outside L × W × H; never substitute one for the other.
  3. Record bedding thickness and leave door, ventilation and walking access clear.
  4. Record the observed behavior and any damage before considering another enclosure.
  5. Inspect material access, door hardware and gaps without testing the dog against a setup they are already forcing.

Set up, inspect and clean

Words such as heavy duty or chew resistant are not individual containment assessments. Remove damaged equipment from use. The planner excludes furniture construction for destructive chewing and stops kennel recommendations for reported escape attempts.

Questions for this setup

Is heavy duty the next step after an escape?

Not automatically. Establish why the dog is trying to leave and whether confinement is appropriate before selecting another enclosure.

Does chew resistant mean chew proof?

Treat those as source claims, not guarantees. The dog’s behavior, access to the material and the exact construction all matter.

Why are there no named recommendations for an escape history?

The tool cannot establish that another model will contain that dog safely. An individual assessment must come before the shopping comparison.

Stronger construction does not answer every behavior problem

For a dog that is otherwise comfortable being crated, examine the specific latch, hinge and floor design. Look at places where a dog could catch a tooth or paw. Confirm the intended use of the exact model and inspect the assembled product before relying on a strength claim.

Our catalog includes heavy-duty models from several marketplace brands, along with established wire ranges. Titles such as indestructible and escape proof are seller claims, not guarantees or evidence that a panicking dog can be safely confined. VCA’s warning about escape injury in dogs with separation anxiety is particularly relevant here.

The useful next step is a design comparison, not an escalation contest. Compare a documented stronger model only if crating remains appropriate for the dog. If the dog is injured, frantic or repeatedly forcing an exit, seek a suitable professional plan instead of assuming a more restrictive enclosure solves the cause.

Our take

We would separate ordinary material wear from panic-driven escape behavior before buying. A stronger-sounding listing is not enough evidence to choose a more restrictive enclosure.

What to compare

Models discussed in this guide

Research comparisons, not hands-on test results or confirmation that a model fits your dog.

Source prices are shown from lower to higher within each model. Different sizes and configurations are not an exact-SKU savings comparison. Shipping, tax and checkout availability are excluded.

MidWest Ultima Pro Double Door

MidWest Ultima Pro Double Door

We would compare the Ultima Pro with a standard double-door MidWest in the same size before deciding to spend more. Door access is a useful shared feature; the specific construction differences need closer inspection.

What could make us pass: Pro and heavy-duty wording do not tell us how it will behave with your dog. Look for a documented difference you need, rather than treating the name as a durability result.

EveryYay Ultra Tough Two Door Wire Crate

EveryYay Ultra Tough Two Door Wire Crate

We would compare the Ultra Tough with the ordinary EveryYay two-door crate by looking for specific frame and latch differences. The useful question is what the extra construction changes for your setup.

What could make us pass: We would not treat Ultra Tough as an escape-test finding. Choose it only when the documented differences justify the cost for a dog that tolerates crating.

FEANDREA Heavy Duty Wheeled Crate

FEANDREA Heavy Duty Wheeled Crate

The FEANDREA’s listed locking wheels and removable tray give us specific daily chores to evaluate. We would investigate whether those features make moving and cleaning the crate easier in your room.

What could make us pass: Treat quick-assembly timing as a seller claim. Check the fixed floor, tray route and wheel locks instead of using an advertised assembly time as a quality signal.

CAMMOO Heavy Duty Crate

CAMMOO Heavy Duty Crate

We would investigate the standard CAMMOO when a metal enclosure’s frame and floor suit a defined home routine. Compare its fixed setup with CAMMOO’s folding version before deciding what matters.

What could make us pass: Ask for the latch, floor and assembly specifications. We would not select it on an escape-resistance implication or assume a heavier crate changes a dog’s response to confinement.
