Best dog kennels for the Acura RDX

For the RDX, decide what stays under the cargo floor before securing a kennel above it.

This guide builds on our general guide to choosing the best kennel for your vehicle. Start there for the overall approach, or change vehicles with the selector below.

Start with your Acura RDX’s layout

The 2019-generation RDX includes hidden storage beneath the rear cargo floor. That is useful luggage space, but it creates a practical kennel question: which supplies can become difficult to reach once the enclosure is installed? Make that inventory before selecting a location for the kennel base.

Keep items needed during ordinary dog stops above the floor in a restrained, reachable organizer. Underfloor capacity is not part of the occupied kennel envelope, and a panel that lifts easily in an empty car may be inaccessible beneath a secured shell. Do not plan on releasing the occupied enclosure every time you need a lead.

The split rear seats can extend the load area, but begin with the rear passengers you normally carry. If only one section folds, inspect the transition from cargo floor to seatback and preserve the adjacent person’s space. A broadly flat-looking load area still needs the support and attachment required by the product instructions.

For a regular seats-up arrangement, compare a single rear-facing RuffLand with a dog-sized G1. Try removing the empty enclosure if the RDX frequently returns to shopping duty. The deciding difference may be the effort required to regain floor-storage access, rather than the nominal size printed on the kennel.

These are candidates to investigate, not confirmed fits. Match the exact size and installation instructions to your dog and vehicle before ordering.

Before you order

Use the main guide’s dog-sizing and loading-route checklist to test your chosen layout. Review how to check crash-test evidence for the exact product and installation; a successful physical fit does not establish crash protection.

Bring your dog’s measurements, your model year and trim, and photos of the intended installation area to the kennel seller. Ask for the exterior envelope and usable interior measurements of the exact size and door configuration. Confirm the return terms before a trial fit.
