This guide builds on our general guide to choosing the best kennel for your vehicle. Start there for the overall approach, or change vehicles with the selector below.
Start with your Toyota Camry’s layout
A Camry kennel must be evaluated in the passenger cabin. Its separate trunk is not an occupied kennel location, regardless of how much luggage it holds. Rear-door access, rear-seat contour and the front passenger seat position are the first constraints to check.
For the Camry, compare the shape of a small-dog carrier with the seat cushion before worrying about luggage capacity. A long rectangular base and a round base can sit quite differently against a sculpted backrest. The belt must follow the carrier maker’s route while adjacent passengers retain their own buckles.
Practice loading at a normal parking-space width. A carrier that can be placed easily with the rear door fully extended in a driveway may be awkward beside another car. Choose a routine in which you can secure the carrier, attach the leash and open it without moving the driver’s seat out of position.
The checks that matter here
- Rear passenger-door opening
- Stable rear-seat or approved cabin installation
- Driver and front-passenger seating clearance
Kennels we would compare for the Toyota Camry
For a small dog, investigate a compact kennel or carrier with a documented vehicle installation method. If an appropriately sized rigid kennel will not fit, choose a suitable tested travel restraint rather than downsizing the dog into an undersized crate.
Sleepypod Air

Compare the rectangular carrier on the Toyota Camry rear seat, with the front occupant in place and the belt following Sleepypod’s instructions.
When we would pass: Pass if the belt cannot follow the instructions on the chosen Camry seat or the carrier cannot enter at your normal parking-space door angle.

Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed

Compare its round footprint when a portable bed and seat-installed carrier would suit your small dog’s routine.
When we would pass: The round base must sit properly against the Camry cushion and backrest; compare it separately from the rectangular Air.

These are candidates to investigate, not confirmed fits. Match the exact size and installation instructions to your dog and vehicle before ordering.
Before you order
Use the main guide’s dog-sizing and loading-route checklist to test your chosen layout. Review how to check crash-test evidence for the exact product and installation; a successful physical fit does not establish crash protection.
Bring your dog’s measurements, your model year and trim, and photos of the intended installation area to the kennel seller. Ask for the exterior envelope and usable interior measurements of the exact size and door configuration. Confirm the return terms before a trial fit.
