This guide builds on our general guide to choosing the best kennel for your vehicle. Start there for the overall approach, or change vehicles with the selector below.

Start with your Volvo XC60’s layout

The XC60’s cargo area includes an underfloor hatch, while its rear pass-through serves long, narrow items. Neither feature should be added to the rectangular space available for an occupied kennel. Choose the actual base position first and decide which stored items will become difficult to reach beneath it.

Volvo’s loading guidance also matters when seats fold: cargo must not interfere with the front seats’ safety-system function. Consult the manual for your year before allowing a kennel or other load to extend forward. A long cargo floor is not permission to brace an enclosure against a front seat.

If your XC60 has a protective grid or divider, assess it separately from the kennel restraint. It may change the space or loading route, but it does not automatically provide the kennel maker’s required attachment method. Measure with the accessory you intend to retain rather than treating its occupied space as available.

We would compare a single-door RuffLand and a correctly sized G1 behind the normally used rear seats first. Put the leads and water supplies somewhere reachable above the floor. That creates a clearer purchase decision than combining every possible folded-seat and underfloor space into one optimistic cargo figure.

The checks that matter here

Kennels we would compare for the Volvo XC60

Start behind occupied rear seats and treat grids, storage and kennel restraint as separate questions.

RuffLand single-door kennel

A rear-facing RuffLand is a candidate when a fitted divider still leaves the full shell and doorway usable.

When we would pass: The divider is not automatically an approved kennel attachment.

Gunner G1

Compare G1 with the exact instructions and Volvo loading guidance checked together.

When we would pass: Do not gain length by pressing the installation against a front seat or obstructing safety-system operation.

These are candidates to investigate, not confirmed fits. Match the exact size and installation instructions to your dog and vehicle before ordering.

Before you order

Use the main guide’s dog-sizing and loading-route checklist to test your chosen layout. Review how to check crash-test evidence for the exact product and installation; a successful physical fit does not establish crash protection.

Bring your dog’s measurements, your model year and trim, and photos of the intended installation area to the kennel seller. Ask for the exterior envelope and usable interior measurements of the exact size and door configuration. Confirm the return terms before a trial fit.
