This guide builds on our general guide to choosing the best kennel for your vehicle. Start there for the overall approach, or change vehicles with the selector below.
Start with your Honda CR-V’s layout
For a CR-V that carries both a dog and passengers, measure behind the second row first. The best kennel arrangement preserves the seating you actually use and leaves a clear loading route. Check your exact powertrain and model year instead of assuming every CR-V has the same floor.
Check the kennel entrance relative to the CR-V’s rear sill. The shell might fit while the door catches on a raised liner edge or the dog has an awkward step into the opening. Test the entry with the mat you intend to keep, and reserve a place to put a leash on before the dog comes out.
A CR-V carrying children needs a repeatable seats-up layout. Do not borrow length by changing a rear seat position that a passenger needs, and do not rely on access through a child-seat position. A simple rear-facing kennel can be the more useful purchase when the hatch will be your only practical approach.
The checks that matter here
- Exact model year and powertrain
- Cargo-floor width between intrusions
- Kennel-door swing above hatch sill
Kennels we would compare for the Honda CR-V
A front-entry RuffLand is a sensible layout to investigate for hatch loading. Compare a correctly sized Gunner G1 if its larger external shell and required securing arrangement fit your measurements.
RuffLand single-door kennel

Test a rear-facing doorway above the CR-V’s actual sill and liner so the dog can enter without an awkward obstruction.
When we would pass: Reject this layout if exact model year and powertrain cannot accommodate the dog-appropriate shell and a usable entrance.

Gunner G1

Try the G1 entrance against the CR-V sill and liner, then check the full shell and instructed restraint with rear passengers retained.
When we would pass: The deciding trial includes kennel-door swing above hatch sill. A floor-only fit does not resolve that constraint.

These are candidates to investigate, not confirmed fits. Match the exact size and installation instructions to your dog and vehicle before ordering.
Before you order
Use the main guide’s dog-sizing and loading-route checklist to test your chosen layout. Review how to check crash-test evidence for the exact product and installation; a successful physical fit does not establish crash protection.
Bring your dog’s measurements, your model year and trim, and photos of the intended installation area to the kennel seller. Ask for the exterior envelope and usable interior measurements of the exact size and door configuration. Confirm the return terms before a trial fit.
