Best dog kennels for the Lexus RX

The RX loading edge and the closing hatch answer different questions: ease of lifting does not establish kennel clearance.

This guide builds on our general guide to choosing the best kennel for your vehicle. Start there for the overall approach, or change vehicles with the selector below.

Start with your Lexus RX’s layout

Lexus describes the newer RX’s low back-door trim as a way to ease loading. For a kennel purchase, use that benefit to test the lifting routine, then assess clearance separately. A shell that crosses the sill easily can still conflict with the hatch at its upper rear corners once it is installed.

Confirm whether you own the current two-row RX or an older three-row RX L. The longer older variant should not donate its seating or cargo assumptions to a newer RX guide. Record the model year and complete name when asking a seller to evaluate your intended arrangement.

For an everyday two-row layout, retain the rear seats and reserve one side of the cargo area for the supplies you regularly reach. Try the kennel entrance with those bags already aboard. A second kennel door adds little if the rear seatbacks and luggage make it inaccessible.

Compare a rear-entry RuffLand and a dog-sized G1 as complete installations, including handles and the maker’s securing method. If you remove the enclosure often, repeat the empty lifting test rather than judging from a single successful placement. The most useful RX arrangement should be manageable by the person who actually loads the dog each day.

The checks that matter here

Kennels we would compare for the Lexus RX

Prioritize a manageable rear-loading installation, then compare full-height shell clearance.

RuffLand single-door kennel

A single-door RuffLand is worth investigating when one rear approach matches the RX’s daily loading routine.

When we would pass: A low sill does not guarantee clearance at kennel-roof height.

Gunner G1

A G1 belongs in the comparison when both its installed envelope and repeated lifting routine work for the owner.

When we would pass: Do not buy on an RX L fit report for a different-generation two-row RX.

These are candidates to investigate, not confirmed fits. Match the exact size and installation instructions to your dog and vehicle before ordering.

Before you order

Use the main guide’s dog-sizing and loading-route checklist to test your chosen layout. Review how to check crash-test evidence for the exact product and installation; a successful physical fit does not establish crash protection.

Bring your dog’s measurements, your model year and trim, and photos of the intended installation area to the kennel seller. Ask for the exterior envelope and usable interior measurements of the exact size and door configuration. Confirm the return terms before a trial fit.
