This guide builds on our general guide to choosing the best kennel for your vehicle. Start there for the overall approach, or change vehicles with the selector below.

Start with your Tesla Model X’s layout

The first Model X question is seating configuration, not total cargo capacity. Establish the exact year and seat layout before researching kennels, because different passenger arrangements change which seats can move or fold and how much usable space remains. A photograph of a large crate in another Model X is useful inspiration, but it is not proof that the same setup works in yours.

Plan the normal family trip first. Keep required passenger seats in use and measure the space behind them, then check the liftgate opening and the roofline at the proposed kennel’s upper corners. If your plan depends on moving seats, follow the manual for your configuration and check that the final position is properly latched. Avoid relying on a maximum-cargo measurement obtained with seats you actually need out of service.

Falcon-wing doors make passenger access distinctive, but the kennel still needs a clear, repeatable loading route and should not interfere with door operation. Test at the kind of parking space you use regularly. Keep vents and passenger exits usable, secure other luggage separately, and do not assume climate software establishes a safe installation. For an older Model X, consult its own manual rather than applying every detail from the current 2021-and-newer manual.

The checks that matter here

Kennels we would compare for the Tesla Model X

A single-door Gunner G1 is a sensible candidate to investigate when the intended kennel position has direct rear access and the dog fits an appropriate size. A RuffLand double-door configuration becomes more interesting when you can make practical use of a second approach. In either case, draw the door swing and restraint route into the layout rather than comparing the shell’s footprint alone.

Investigate a rear-access installation after confirming which seats must remain in use in your particular Model X.

When we would pass: A different seat-count configuration may fold differently; confirm your own seats before allocating floor space.

A second entrance is worth considering if your actual seating layout offers an accessible second loading route.

When we would pass: Falcon-wing passenger access does not prove the chosen kennel door can be reached in your regular parking space.

These are candidates to investigate, not confirmed fits. Match the exact size and installation instructions to your dog and vehicle before ordering.

Before you order

Use the main guide’s dog-sizing and loading-route checklist to test your chosen layout. Review how to check crash-test evidence for the exact product and installation; a successful physical fit does not establish crash protection.

Bring your dog’s measurements, your model year and trim, and photos of the intended installation area to the kennel seller. Ask for the exterior envelope and usable interior measurements of the exact size and door configuration. Confirm the return terms before a trial fit.
