This guide builds on our general guide to choosing the best kennel for your vehicle. Start there for the overall approach, or change vehicles with the selector below.

Start with your Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV’s layout

A GLE SUV may have an optional third row on selected versions, so the badge alone does not settle the passenger plan. Identify whether that row is installed and whether anyone uses it on dog trips. Even a rarely used row matters when deciding how permanent the kennel arrangement can be.

The second row can recline, and its position changes the space available behind it. Set the seatbacks for the people who ride there before measuring. A kennel that works only with a passenger sitting unnaturally upright is not a useful everyday fit, even if the brochure’s folded-seat volume looks generous.

Use the split rear seat only for a deliberate trip layout. Keep remaining passengers’ belts and exits available, and check the complete support surface below any enclosure extending forward. A cabin-facing kennel door is helpful only when the seat arrangement leaves room to open it and guide the dog through.

Compare a rear-entry RuffLand and G1 with the hatch shut and the passengers’ normal recline preserved. Keep GLE Coupe examples separate from the SUV; their rear bodies are not interchangeable fit evidence. For a removable arrangement, add the frequency of restoring the optional third row to the cost in effort of owning a heavy shell.

The checks that matter here

Kennels we would compare for the Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV

Measure behind seats set for people, then compare complete rear-entry installations.

RuffLand single-door kennel

A single-door RuffLand is worth examining when passengers keep the second row in its ordinary reclined position.

When we would pass: Do not gain kennel depth by taking away a passenger’s usable seat position.

Gunner G1

A G1 can be compared once the optional third-row arrangement is fixed for the trip.

When we would pass: Restoring a rarely used row may still make frequent kennel removal necessary.

Before you order

Use the main guide’s dog-sizing and loading-route checklist to test your chosen layout. Review how to check crash-test evidence for the exact product and installation; a successful physical fit does not establish crash protection.

Bring your dog’s measurements, your model year and trim, and photos of the intended installation area to the kennel seller. Ask for the exterior envelope and usable interior measurements of the exact size and door configuration. Confirm the return terms before a trial fit.
