This guide builds on our general guide to choosing the best kennel for your vehicle. Start there for the overall approach, or change vehicles with the selector below.
Start with your Nissan Pathfinder’s layout
A Pathfinder can serve as a people mover or a dog-and-luggage vehicle, but those are different packing plans. Decide how many seats need to remain available before measuring. The space behind an occupied third row is the relevant starting point for a full passenger load; the longer floor with that row folded is a separate configuration.
Check the second-row layout as well as the cargo compartment. A bench and captain's chairs create different routes for passengers reaching the rear. Do not position a kennel where it prevents the access your household needs. Leave seat adjustments and latches usable without shifting the occupied kennel on every stop.
With the third row folded, we would compare a dog-sized Gunner G1 against a RuffLand configuration chosen for its door access. A second kennel door is only valuable if it remains reachable in the installed position. Both options need a full exterior measurement check, a suitable securing method and room for the dog to enter.
For two dogs, lay out two separate kennel envelopes before shopping by brand. The apparent width at the hatch may exceed the useful width farther forward, and a side-by-side arrangement must still leave ventilation and latch access. Finally, plan where the stroller, bags or cooler will go; loose luggage should not become the structure holding the kennels in place.
The checks that matter here
- Third-row seats occupied or folded
- Second-row passenger access around kennel
- Two-kennel width, ventilation and independent door access
Kennels we would compare for the Nissan Pathfinder
With a measured third-row-folded layout, compare Gunner G1 for a purpose-designed travel setup and RuffLand for the door configuration that works in your cargo area.
Gunner G1

A G1 can be assessed behind the Pathfinder’s second row when folding the third row matches the trip’s actual passenger count.
When we would pass: If the third row stays occupied, do not use depth gained by folding it in another owner’s example.

RuffLand double-door configuration

Compare a second doorway only when the bench or captain-chair arrangement leaves a usable route past the family’s normal equipment.
When we would pass: Captain-chair access is only useful if luggage and child seats leave the kennel approach clear.

These are candidates to investigate, not confirmed fits. Match the exact size and installation instructions to your dog and vehicle before ordering.
Before you order
Use the main guide’s dog-sizing and loading-route checklist to test your chosen layout. Review how to check crash-test evidence for the exact product and installation; a successful physical fit does not establish crash protection.
Bring your dog’s measurements, your model year and trim, and photos of the intended installation area to the kennel seller. Ask for the exterior envelope and usable interior measurements of the exact size and door configuration. Confirm the return terms before a trial fit.
