This guide builds on our general guide to choosing the best kennel for your vehicle. Start there for the overall approach, or change vehicles with the selector below.

Start with your Volkswagen Tiguan’s layout

The US Tiguan changed its basic passenger layout: the 2025 and 2026 versions are exclusively two-row, while older examples can have a third row. Start with that generation boundary. A recommendation based on folding an older Tiguan’s third row does not describe the newer vehicle’s cargo arrangement.

Volkswagen’s newer smart cargo floor also makes the chosen floor setup important. Set it as you intend to use it and check the instructions before placing a kennel. Do not combine the headroom of one arrangement with the support surface of another when drawing the installation.

Choose what remains in underfloor storage after the kennel is installed. If the dog’s leads, roadside kit or frequently used supplies sit below a strapped-in enclosure, every stop can become an unloading job. Put routine items in an accessible location and keep the remaining storage separate from the kennel’s usable footprint.

We would begin with one rear-facing entrance and compare full exterior shells in that stable layout. The 60:40 bench can provide alternatives when you do not need every rear seat, but any remaining passenger must keep a usable belt and exit. Test that arrangement after the seats and floor are set, not in an empty showroom configuration.

RuffLand single-door is a candidate when the floor arrangement and hatch give one clear rear approach.

When we would pass: Changing the cargo-floor setup requires a new support and height check.

Compare G1 after deciding which underfloor items must remain accessible.

When we would pass: Do not accept an installation that needs to be released for every routine supply stop.

Before you order

Use the main guide’s dog-sizing and loading-route checklist to test your chosen layout. Review how to check crash-test evidence for the exact product and installation; a successful physical fit does not establish crash protection.

Bring your dog’s measurements, your model year and trim, and photos of the intended installation area to the kennel seller. Ask for the exterior envelope and usable interior measurements of the exact size and door configuration. Confirm the return terms before a trial fit.
