This guide builds on our general guide to choosing the best kennel for your vehicle. Start there for the overall approach, or change vehicles with the selector below.
Start with your Hyundai Santa Fe’s layout
A current three-row Santa Fe offers a different kennel planning problem from older vehicles bearing the same name. Start with a dog-sized GUNNER G1 or RuffLand Intermediate and evaluate a cargo installation with the third row folded if that matches your passenger needs. Neither is a confirmed fit. First establish the model year and seat layout; a broad claim that a kennel fits a Santa Fe leaves too many important details unanswered.
Hyundai’s current Santa Fe has three rows and offers second-row captain’s chairs on selected configurations. That should not be generalized to an older two-row Santa Fe or Santa Fe Sport. Set the second row for real passengers before measuring, including their normal recline. If you need the third row occupied, assess the remaining space independently rather than reusing measurements taken with the seats folded.
The newer body’s upright appearance can make the cargo area look straightforward, but the real boundaries include the closed hatch, interior trim and seatback angle. Check the opening at the kennel’s highest point and measure the supported floor beneath its entire base. A cardboard mock-up should include handles and the door’s swing. Leave room to reach latches and follow the specified attachment route without relying on pressure against the seats.
For a family trip, test the kennel alongside the actual luggage and passenger arrangement. An aisle between captain’s chairs is an access route, not spare storage to block casually. Keep occupied seats reachable and bags independently restrained. If the dog-sized kennel works only when you remove access people need, choose another configuration. The best Santa Fe setup is the one that supports both the dog and the household’s normal use of all three rows.
The checks that matter here
- Confirm model year and distinguish current three-row models from older layouts.
- Set second-row recline and decide whether the third row remains occupied.
- Measure supported floor and closed-hatch clearance around the full shell.
- Preserve passenger access between captain’s chairs if that route is needed.
Kennels we would compare for the Hyundai Santa Fe
Choose a dog-sized kennel only after confirming the seats, supported floor, hatch clearance and passenger access in your own Santa Fe.
GUNNER G1 — select size for your dog

Worth measuring with the current Santa Fe’s third row folded if those seats are not required.
When we would pass: Confirm whether your Santa Fe is an older two-row layout or a newer three-row generation before using cargo advice.

RuffLand Intermediate Kennel

Compare when a dedicated cargo position can preserve second-row passenger comfort and access.
When we would pass: Any retained rear passenger needs a clear exit, even when part of the rear row is folded for the kennel.

These are candidates to investigate, not confirmed fits. Match the exact size and installation instructions to your dog and vehicle before ordering.
Before you order
Use the main guide’s dog-sizing and loading-route checklist to test your chosen layout. Review how to check crash-test evidence for the exact product and installation; a successful physical fit does not establish crash protection.
Bring your dog’s measurements, your model year and trim, and photos of the intended installation area to the kennel seller. Ask for the exterior envelope and usable interior measurements of the exact size and door configuration. Confirm the return terms before a trial fit.
