This guide builds on our general guide to choosing the best kennel for your vehicle. Start there for the overall approach, or change vehicles with the selector below.
Start with your Mazda CX-30’s layout
The CX-30 has five seats, but that does not mean it can retain five occupants, a rigid dog kennel and a full weekend load at once. Begin with the people who actually ride with the dog. The smaller seats-up cargo area is the relevant starting space when rear passengers need their places.
For a small dog within a carrier’s size guidance, a permitted rear-seat carrier may preserve the cargo area for luggage. That choice consumes a passenger position instead. Compare the two arrangements explicitly rather than buying a cargo kennel first and discovering which part of daily life it displaces.
If a cargo kennel is the right category, test its height under the closed hatch before refining the floor plan. A low-looking crossover can still offer useful floor length while its rear glass limits the top of a rectangular enclosure. A flat paper footprint will not show that conflict.
We would choose a seat carrier only after checking the belt route and a cargo kennel only after checking its securing instructions. If the dog is too large for a suitable carrier and its correct kennel size fails the cargo trial, change the transport plan. Shrinking the enclosure to preserve grocery space is not a workable answer.
The checks that matter here
- Dog-size eligibility for a seat carrier
- Occupied rear seats versus luggage needs
- Full-height mock-up under the hatch
Kennels we would compare for the Mazda CX-30
Compare two different layouts first: a small-dog seat carrier or a dog-sized rear cargo kennel.
RuffLand single-door kennel

A single-door cargo kennel is worth measuring when you can dedicate rear space without losing required seats.
When we would pass: Skip the cargo plan if the correct dog size reaches the closing glass.

Gunner G1

A G1 is a separate cargo candidate only when its larger exterior requirements can be installed in the same seats-up arrangement.
When we would pass: A successful floor outline alone is insufficient in this compact crossover.

Sleepypod Air — small-dog seat alternative

For a small dog, compare Sleepypod Air on an available rear seat if preserving the CX-30 luggage area matters more than retaining that passenger position.
When we would pass: Check the dog’s interior-size limits and belt route; this option cannot accommodate a larger dog just because the seat is free.

These are candidates to investigate, not confirmed fits. Match the exact size and installation instructions to your dog and vehicle before ordering.
Before you order
Use the main guide’s dog-sizing and loading-route checklist to test your chosen layout. Review how to check crash-test evidence for the exact product and installation; a successful physical fit does not establish crash protection.
Bring your dog’s measurements, your model year and trim, and photos of the intended installation area to the kennel seller. Ask for the exterior envelope and usable interior measurements of the exact size and door configuration. Confirm the return terms before a trial fit.
