This guide builds on our general guide to choosing the best kennel for your vehicle. Start there for the overall approach, or change vehicles with the selector below.

Start with your Lexus NX’s layout

The NX’s rear-seat equipment deserves attention before the kennel enters the vehicle. Lexus offers powered folding on equipped versions, with controls accessible from more than one location. Set the passenger arrangement first, then keep the enclosure outside the seats’ movement; a powered seat should not be used to press a kennel into place.

If the rear seats stay occupied, begin behind them in their normal positions. A folded-seat maximum tells you little about that everyday envelope. Include the actual cargo mat and measure at the kennel’s upper corners, where the closed hatch can be more restrictive than the floor outline suggests.

We would compare a single rear-facing entrance before paying for alternate doors. With the seats upright, a door facing a seatback offers little practical value. If you genuinely use a folded section for access, test the opening and the person’s approach without changing the adjacent passenger’s position.

For an NX shared by several drivers, make the intended seat-and-kennel arrangement easy to recognize. Check the releases and nearby controls during loading, and tell other users which seat motions are incompatible with the installed enclosure. That repeatable setup is a more meaningful buying criterion than trying to use every available cargo configuration.

The checks that matter here

Kennels we would compare for the Lexus NX

Favor a fixed, repeatable seats-up layout if the NX normally carries rear passengers.

RuffLand single-door kennel

Compare a rear-entry RuffLand when the hatch is the only approach that remains open with seats upright.

When we would pass: An extra door facing a seatback contributes no useful access.

Gunner G1

Evaluate G1 with the rear seats already set and its securing routes accessible.

When we would pass: Reject a placement that depends on powered seats compressing or supporting the shell.

These are candidates to investigate, not confirmed fits. Match the exact size and installation instructions to your dog and vehicle before ordering.

Before you order

Use the main guide’s dog-sizing and loading-route checklist to test your chosen layout. Review how to check crash-test evidence for the exact product and installation; a successful physical fit does not establish crash protection.

Bring your dog’s measurements, your model year and trim, and photos of the intended installation area to the kennel seller. Ask for the exterior envelope and usable interior measurements of the exact size and door configuration. Confirm the return terms before a trial fit.
