On the returning US hybrid Land Cruiser, cargo-side battery cooling intakes belong in the kennel layout.

This guide builds on our general guide to choosing the best kennel for your vehicle. Start there for the overall approach, or change vehicles with the selector below.

Start with your Toyota Land Cruiser’s layout

The Land Cruiser that returned to the US for 2024 has five seats and a hybrid powertrain. It should not inherit a layout from an older Land Cruiser with third-row seats removed. Start with the actual cargo floor and retained rear bench in your vehicle, not a familiar nameplate’s historical dimensions.

Toyota’s 2026 manual identifies hybrid-battery cooling intakes in the rear side trims. Locate them in your own vehicle and follow the manual’s clearance guidance. A kennel, liner edge or tightly packed bag must not turn a visually convenient side position into an obstruction to those openings.

Build the outdoor equipment plan around the enclosure rather than filling gaps after it is installed. Recovery gear, a cooler and a stored ramp need independently secured positions, with the cooling intakes and kennel ventilation both remaining clear. Treat an aftermarket drawer system as a new support and height configuration to assess.

Compare RuffLand and G1 after marking those no-obstruction areas on the cargo plan. The best candidate is the dog-sized installation that still leaves a practical rear entrance and access to ordinary supplies. A broad floor footprint alone is insufficient when the surrounding side panels contain vehicle systems that must continue to work.

The checks that matter here

Kennels we would compare for the Toyota Land Cruiser

Map the cooling intakes before choosing the kennel’s side-to-side position.

A rear-entry RuffLand is worth comparing where the full enclosure leaves the documented side-intake areas clear.

When we would pass: Do not fill the remaining vent-side gap with mats or bags.

Gunner G1

Compare G1 as a complete installation with its straps and outdoor gear included in the drawing.

When we would pass: An older third-row-removal installation does not establish fit in the returning hybrid model.

These are candidates to investigate, not confirmed fits. Match the exact size and installation instructions to your dog and vehicle before ordering.

Before you order

Use the main guide’s dog-sizing and loading-route checklist to test your chosen layout. Review how to check crash-test evidence for the exact product and installation; a successful physical fit does not establish crash protection.

Bring your dog’s measurements, your model year and trim, and photos of the intended installation area to the kennel seller. Ask for the exterior envelope and usable interior measurements of the exact size and door configuration. Confirm the return terms before a trial fit.
