This guide builds on our general guide to choosing the best kennel for your vehicle. Start there for the overall approach, or change vehicles with the selector below.
Start with your Kia K5’s layout
The K5 is a sedan, so begin with a rear-seat travel arrangement rather than its separate trunk. The luggage compartment must not be used for an occupied kennel. Pick the rear seating position that can remain available and check the carrier maker's instructions for using that seat and belt before comparing finishes or accessories.
A compact Sleepypod Air and Mobile Pet Bed are useful starting comparisons for a small dog. Their different base shapes can behave differently on the K5's seat surface. Check that the carrier remains supported and that the seat belt follows the prescribed route without being twisted, trapped or shared with another occupant.
The roofline and rear doorway deserve a real loading trial. A carrier may fit on the seat yet be difficult to maneuver past the door opening with a dog inside. Confirm that you can open it in the installed position and that it does not require the front passenger to sit unnaturally far forward. A measurement with the front seats pushed to their stops is not an everyday-use measurement.
For larger dogs, a sedan-sized carrier may simply be the wrong category. Investigate an appropriate travel restraint rather than a larger home crate forced into the cabin. Keep current-year information separate from older K5 examples and do not treat a successful fit in another Kia sedan as transferable. The final check is a complete installation with your normal passengers and securely stowed luggage.
The checks that matter here
- Roof edge and rear-door loading angle
- Supported carrier base and prescribed belt routing
- Front-passenger comfort with carrier installed
Kennels we would compare for the Kia K5
Start with a correctly sized small-dog carrier on a supported rear seat. Prefer an easy, repeatable loading routine over a larger carrier that barely passes through the door.
Sleepypod Air

Investigate Air for a small dog after rehearsing the turn under the K5 rear roof edge with the front occupant seated normally.
When we would pass: The rear roof edge can constrain loading before the carrier reaches the seat; test the complete motion.

Sleepypod Mobile Pet Bed

Compare the round bed’s supported footprint and belt routing on the K5 cushion, separately from whether the rectangular Air can be loaded.
When we would pass: Pass if the base sits across a gap or the belt must take a route outside the carrier’s instructions.

These are candidates to investigate, not confirmed fits. Match the exact size and installation instructions to your dog and vehicle before ordering.
Before you order
Use the main guide’s dog-sizing and loading-route checklist to test your chosen layout. Review how to check crash-test evidence for the exact product and installation; a successful physical fit does not establish crash protection.
Bring your dog’s measurements, your model year and trim, and photos of the intended installation area to the kennel seller. Ask for the exterior envelope and usable interior measurements of the exact size and door configuration. Confirm the return terms before a trial fit.
